Pigeon is a radical animal reader published by Sybil Press. We seek new, experimental, creative essays, text art, word games, and other literary works for issue 3 on the subject of “spirit/ual animals.”
We understand animal in the larger sense, from the human and non-human animal to the monarch butterfly and invisible microscopic worlds. We are open to speculation on cosmic life and artificial intelligence and philosophical, psychological or political animals.
In terms of spiritualism: we seek a hybrid discourse surrounding animal beings and being animal in ritualized, mystical, mythic and religious forms and spaces which can be interwoven with representation and/or exploitation and/or empowerment of otherness, gender, identity, and the natural or unnatural environment.
In the spirit of “no gods; no masters,” contrarian paradigms and interdisciplinary critiques are desirable: no clichés; no sloganeering.
